Things to See & Do at Heatherbank
There is so much to see and do around Strontian that it is difficult to know where to start and stop but here is a small suggestion for a one week break
Saturday arrive - unpack and relax before dinner, perhaps take a walk in the immediate area or sit in the garden before dinner.
Sunday- off to Sanna Bay via Acharacle. After spending some time enjoying Sanna Bay back along the road and then a detour to the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse. Back to Strontian in time for dinner.
Monday - a long walk from Heatherbank to the bottom of the hill and left into the Ariundle Forest. This can be as long or as short as you like and there are many options allowing you to take a circular route back to Heatherbank. Its worth taking a picnic and spending the whole day exploring. Back too Heatherbank, relax and have dinner.
Tuesday - over the Lochaline Road to the Ferry Terminal and cross to the Isle of Mull. Turn right at the road end and travel to Tobermory and spend a delightful day visiting the Chocolate Factory, the Silversmiths, The Lifeboat Station and perhaps include lunch at McGonnigans, mmm, delicious. Back on the ferry to Heatherbank or make a real day of it and wait till the last ferry and have dinner in Tobermory.
Wednesday - down to the Ariundle Craft Centre and try your hand at a workshop in Batik, Decorated mirrors, Spinning Basket making, Stained Glass, or Felt making. You can dine at the Ariundle or try the Ben View Hotel, the village local just a mile or two up the road.
Thursday - Go Whale Watching with Skippers Tom or Andy Jackson's of Ardnamurchan Charters and spend the whole day watching for Whales, Dolphins and Porpoise, the Basking Shark and then on to visit the Island of Muck where there are lovely walks, beautiful white sandy beaches, seals, birds and wild flowers. There is also a small craft shop and licensed restaurant.
Friday - across on the Corran Ferry and spend the day in Fort William - a short drive and you can have lunch at the Moorings by Neptune's Staircase and after lunch take a leisurely walk up the banks of the canal. Back into Fort William and spend the afternoon shopping for those last minute gifts and souvenirs to take home to loved ones. |
